I grew up amongst redwood trees. The groves were my playground as a child. Later I learned that the redwoods grow as a group to support one another. They share their roots with each other and that makes them less susceptible to fire. While fighting cancer, I discovered the truth of how much community matters. It’s so important to have a tribe of others who can walk with us in this life and support us when we need it. The reference photo for this painting, I took in the LandPaths Grove of Old Trees in Occidental. I was captivated by the light streaming through, and the black charred bark on the old one in the front, telling a story of resiliency.
This original painting is acrylic on canvas, 24in x 20in, by 1.5in and is painted on all sides.
