How fun it was to capture this softly illuminated female cardinal. A few winters ago, I saw my first cardinal outside the window of my sister-in-in-law’s house in Marietta, GA. She was fighting brain cancer at the time. I was stunned at its beauty, and it made me think of a song by HunterGirl called “Red Bird”. The song asks God to send a Red Bird as a sign that He still cares. In that moment, I needed a “red bird”, as my little niece and I tried our hand at capturing him in watercolor along with a mate. My sweet sister-in-law flew to heaven a few months later. While missing her this Christmas, I enjoyed thinking of that special moment and capturing this Mrs. Cardinal in acrylic.
